Upgrade To A Bigger Internal Drive
I'm sure these questions must already be answered somewhere here but I was driving myself nuts looking for the answers. Please would someone help me see the wood from the trees?
I'm about to upgrade the hard drive in my Intel MacBook Pro that is running Mavericks to a new SSD that is about double the capacity of the existing hard drive. I was planning to install the new SSD, boot from a SuperDuper backup on an external FireWire drive, format the SSD as one single partition and restore to it using SD. 1. Is it OK for the SSD partition to be a different size to the backup drive or must they be identical? 2. Excuse my ignorance but is defragmentation relevant to SSDs? If so, should I take the opportunity to run iDefrag on the new SSD before booting from it? Many thanks, K |
