Thanks Dave, sounds good, I'll look into hdiutil also.
I am using an ext FW drive for routine backups, I'd just like to get one to DVD and offsite every six months or so, just in case, and have one DVD set for my kids iBook at college. FW drives are reasonable, but I don't really want to buy a 2nd and 3rd one for this requirement. -kc
