If you want to isolate the OS install, you want to install it on the Safety Clone, not on the original drive.
Remember, though -- there are data differences between Tiger and Panther. It's important to read my FAQ about Tiger Compatibility, and understand that if you're not using IMAP, you could have some trouble if you want to roll back to Panther: POP messages taken off the server, or filed in folders, won't be available....
