Migration
I've asked this question before but am still not sure how to proceed.
I just purchased a refurb PowerBook with 10.3.3 and would like to transfer everything to it from my Desktop G4 running 10.3.9. Can SuperDuper do this without mucking up the PowerBook features such as battery management that aren't installed on the desktop Mac? I understand using the FireWire target disk mode, but I just want to make sure how to proceed. Thanks again for your patient help I'm sorry to be a PITA. G |

I've already answered this question when you posted it via email, but the answer is just transfer the Desktop to the Powerbook. The features, while not *available* on the desktop Mac, are actually installed -- you're just not seeing them.
As long as the OS revision was released after the hardware involved, it should work just fine.

Thanks again Dave ... the part that I didn't understand was that the laptop features were installed on the desktop and just not available. I also didn't wise up to why the laptop OS needed to be earlier than the desktop. Now I get it.
I bought SuperDuper yesterday and can't wait to use it. G |

That's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It went off without the least bit of a hitch. I can't believe how well it worked. Thanks loads, G |

You bet. Glad things worked as expected, or better!

I got the mini working fine by setting the screen resolution lower, then higher again. This was intended to be a workaround, not a fix, but it worked permanently as a fix. Apple tech support was very surprised I got away with this. Moral: OSX 'travels' well, and suspecting SD! should be way down your list, in the event of issues like mine. If you have issues, don't give up. |

Hm, they must not have changed the base hardware enough for the 10.3.9 enabler to be incompatible. Lucky, in this case, Syzygies! Wouldn't work for 10.3.9 and a Quad, for example!
