I don't see how it could since there is no mention of a Recovery Partition which from what I understand is required to boot a FileVault2 system.

Why not just boot from the external back-up volume and clone the backup over to the corrupted volume using SD!'s Erase then Copy setting?

After the SD! clone completes, Spotlight begins indexing destination volume and is no longer showing in Spotlight...

Right, but on 10.3, 10.4 there would be a prompt for the password if it wasn't in the keychain. Now we just hang... So either SD! or Apple has changed something.
