I had the smart idea to day to strip out all my movies and music from the Tiger backup so it would fit on an old 80g external HDD I have. Then all I had to do was boot...

Archiving a SD! backup
Hi, under Tiger I performed daily smart updates incase of HDD failure, I did the last one yesterday morning. My MB has a 160g HDD with just under 100g used, the SD! backup lives on it's own partition...
