com.shirtpocket.lastVolumeList

Hi all,

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, the above mentioned file appears in a Recovered Files folder every time I start my MBP. Is there any way to stop this? I realize that technically there is nothing wrong, but it is kind of annoying.

Thanks,

Fergus

Sorry, there isn't: this is how Snow Leopard is cleaning up local temporary files.

Is there a different temporary file location or some other method SD! could use to avoid this?

Similarly, even on Leopard, DEVONthink leaves an empty folder under Trash Recovered Files after every system restart. That bothers me even though I restart as infrequently as possible (mostly only to reclaim memory after reaching 5-6 swapfiles, which fortunately happens too soon/often with "only" 2G on my iMac G5).

Not one that gets cleaned up automatically on logout/login, no.

Thanks for the explanation and reassurance Dave.

Just wondering though, out of sheer curiosity... why is Super Duper creating local temporary files so often, when I am not even launching the app? Actually, I haven't launched it in weeks, I typically only launch it once every couple months to update my offsite bootable clone. And yet every time I reboot, I see this com.shirtpocket.lastVolumeList file in my trash.

Okay, so I now know it's Snow Leopard's "fault" and I know it's completely innocuous. I am just wondering what Super Duper is doing differently from any other program on my Mac, that causes it to create a local temp file when I haven't even used the application in quite a long time.

It's the "backup on mount" launch services process, which runs each time a volume is mounted/unmounted (and on login to get the 'current list of volumes' when you start).
