As I indicated in the support email, I'm not sure what you mean by "can't find the startup volume". If you're getting a sheet, did you do anything to the startup volume that might have caused its low-level ID to change, like erasing it with Disk Utility?

If you cancel the "mount sheet", can you pick the drive in the source pop-up?
