How to restore all the files, apps and settings after installing new OS?

Hi,

I just made a backup of my MBP to an external firewire HD. Now that I'm about to erase the entire computer, wipe the Tiger OS, then install a new OS (Leopard).

How will I restore all the files, apps, setting etc? Do I have to manually copy and paste them back to the computer? If I do that would I mess up the system especially Library files? Please help! Many thanks in advance.

DA

As I've said in the other post, don't erase it. Just do an upgrade install.

I want to erase the entire computer because it's been crashing a lot. I also need to install Leopard bacause a software that I need to use requires Leopard.

So, in this scenario, how can I restore all the files from my Firewire drive which was made from Tiger? Manual copy? Any command I can use? Many thanks!

Make sure your backup is bootable and as you want it. Clean install the OS to the internal. On the first startup it'll ask you if you want to 'copy from another Mac'. Point it at the backup volume and it'll bring in your files and applications.

Note that wiping a Mac does not stop it from 'crashing a lot' unless you've actually determined what's wrong!
