Failing to Copy Files

Hi,

I am trying to make a bootable copy of my Powerbook's hard drive using the "Backup - all files" setting to my LaCie 160 GB firewire external hard drive. I want to do this so that I can boot from the LaCie drive after I upgrade the Powerbook's hard drive. In preparation, I zeroed out and erased all of the data on the LaCie drive.

When I attempt to clone my Powerbook's hard drive, I get an error about 4 minutes into the copying process saying, "failed to copy files from Macintosh HD to LaCie hard drive."

Is there anything that I am doing wrong? Can anyone help?

Here is the section of the log file where it fails:

Take a look at the Troubleshooting section of the User's Guide -- it covers I/O errors in some detail and should help you resolve this problem.

Note that, since this seems to be in a system file, you're likely going to have to Archive and Install OSX to get around the problem...

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot for the advice. I ended up needing to do a archive-install. It worked, though, and I was able to use SuperDuper! to clone my hard drive. Thanks, again.
