Kernel Panik with new 17"MB

i was trying to clone my system as usual from my old MacBookPro Core Duo to my brand new 17" MB latest generation. Unfortunately it won't work everytie trying to reboot over fire wire as well as internal HD a kernel pani occured even before startup and the system freezes...

I needed to clone the drive first and then run installation of OS over the clone.

Any ideas why this is happening ?

thanks Matt

Yes, can't really do that yet, because the OS versions are different. Restore your new Mac using its DVD, then use the Migration Assistant (that'll appear during the first startup) to migrate from either a full SD! copy or the other Mac.

OK! In general, doing it with the migration is preferred, but an archive-and-install over the top will generally work too...
