Error | ditto: Invalid argument, problem copying using Backup - all files

Hi there,

I'm trying to use Backup - all files. This fails part way through with the following message in the log:

Error | ditto: /Users/mjdunlop/Music/iTunes/./Temp File: Invalid argument

The backup used to work perfectly and I had it set up to run daily, but then I changed the name of the backup location. I deleted the old scheduled backup and created a new one for the newly named backup location. Every since then the backup has failed to run to completion.

Any ideas on what's going wrong?

Thanks!
Mary

Yes. It's directory damage you can fix with Disk Utility.

You'll want to start up from your OS DVD and select "Disk Utility" from the "Installer" or "Utilities" (or "Tools") menu, depending on the version. Use that to repair the drive structure of the internal drive (NOT permissions), then restart and give it another try.

Is the directory damage a problem with my computer or the external drive I'm trying to back up to?

From the error message it looks like a problem with the internal drive, but it only appeared after I made changes to the external drive. Just a coincidence?

Thank you for your help,
Mary

It's the source drive, Mary.
