SD Backup to External Drive connected via Time Capsule?

I have an external drive connected to time capsule I would like to backup to. When I try to backup to it via SD, the external drive does not show up as an option in SD. I can navigate to the external drive outside of SD ... Is what I'm trying to do possible? Thanks!!
