Migrating from Mac Mini 2012 to Mac Mini 2014
Dave, I have a Mac Mini later 2012 running Mojave with an SSD clone connected via USB 3.0. I am migrating to a new late 2014 Mac Mini which is coming with High Sierra installed. What would you suggest as the best strategy to migrate? Would it make sense to erase the new Mini's internal drive and clone my Mojave backup via its USB 3.0 connection? What would you suggest?

Given you're running Mojave, I'd boot from the backup, format the drive appropriately (if SSD, APFS) and then restore with SuperDuper.
Alternatively, you can clean (erase) install Mojave to the new mini and then, when prompted to restore during first boot, point at the SuperDuper backup.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I was thinking that would make more sense than using Migration Assistant on the new machine, since I have a solid backup and just want to replicate that entire environment on the new Mini.

Hello. I'm looking to do the same thing.
I'm looking to use SuperDuper to clone from my source Mac mini 2012 to my new Mac mini 2018 via target disk mode. I thought that would be easiest. It is not turning out to be so. I've found the following instructions in another post. How would the following instructions be modified to accommodate Mojave and APFS? I assume SuperDuper does not care if the disk is attached as an external target disk that happens to be another computer. Thanks. https://www.shirt-pocket.com/forums/...4361#post34361 |
