Best way to created a backup of a new drive

I've got a 1.5TB drive with about 700GB used, I bought another 1.5TB and did a backup but it took over 24hrs for the whole thing, it averaged about 20GB/hr transfer... but when I manually move files over it moves a lot faster.

Unfortunately, the backup I bought is a faulty and I'm going to have to return it. I'm a little scared of running another 24+hr backup and was wondering if there's a faster way to do it.

Also, if I manually moves files over, then run a smart update, will SD delete what I've manually moved and try to run them through SD? I could have sworn in the past when I've done this SD deleted my old files and copied them again thru SD. Any help is appreciated

I don't know what kind of drive you copied to, or how it was connected, but I'd generally expect 8-12MB/s to a quality external, sometimes faster.

If you manually move files to the right place and they're correctly copied (all data/dates/etc correct) we won't replace them.
