Question Best practices for creating builds to clone from

I support a workplaces with various Mac models and I have to frequently re-prep machines as they go in and out of circulation. However, some of the computers are having performance problems and I' m wondering if there's a better way.

For instance, I create a system, with all the software installs, on a 1.8 GHz G5, clone it onto the external HD [with SuperDuper], and I use this as the master build for all other G5 models [including dual 2.0 and 2.5 GHz's]. Is it better to make a build for each model G5 [1.8 GHz, dual 2.5 GHz, etc.,] or should I make one generic G5 build for all models?
