Newbie here - Help Required

Right, here it goes...

I stupidly erased a folder full of work last night and the usual panic ensued. I have a trial copy of Data Rescue to (hopefully) recover my files but it needs to run from a seperate start up os. I have a LaCie firewire drive so I am hoping to make a bootable OS with the data rescue application on it so I can scan my internal harddrive and (hopefully) recover my files.

In one big question... is SuperDuper the program to make this bootable drive and can I install and run just the data rescue application on it?

A lot of forums have suggested CCC but a lot have also warned it can damage your system so I am more interested in SuperDuper.

Your help would be most appreciated

Kind regards

Tom -

Sorry to hear about your mistake!

While SuperDuper! certainly can create a bootable done of the drive, it seems the better thing to do until you recover your data is to use your regular OS X install discs to place a clean copy of OS x on your external drive for this purpose. Once you're all recovered, you can then use SD! to make a backup of your data, which can help in the future should this happen again...

Thanks for the speedy response - well worth a $20 registration fee!!

OK so I'll format the external drive 'cos I think it's FAT 32 to HFS using disc utility.

then..

Install from my panther install discs to the firewire drive and copy Disc rescue application to it.

then..

recover files (I live in hope), live a peaceful life with a beautiful woman and regularly use Superduper to ensure such stupidity never occurs again.

Thanks

Right, and if you can, do the prep while booted from the Panther CD. You want to use the drive with the deleted files on if as little as possible.
