Copy slowed down

When SD began copying, I noticed that the copy speed was a little over 8 MB/s; it now has slowed to 1.84 MB/s.

What has caused the copy slow down?

Can the copy speed be increased? If so, how?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Well, it depends entirely on the drive, files, interface, other applications, etc. Running any AntiVirus? Have you added the destination drive into the spotlight preference pane "Privacy" tab?

I do not have AntiVirus, and did not know about adding destination drive into the spotlight preference pane "Privacy" tab.

Should I add it to the Privacy tab or leave it out?

Thanks very much for your help.

I'd add it - it certainly will do less I/O to the drive, and in most cases you don't want to spotlight search the backup.

Thanks for the info - I have placed the destination drive in the Privacy tab of the Spotlight Preference pane.

I appreciate your help.
