downgrading from Catalina to Mojave

Hello, once again SuperDuper! will save my day.

Catalina 10.15 is not for me and I wish to revert to 10.14.6, my last back-up. I just want to double-check I have the correct procedure:
1) boot from SD clone;
2) "Back-up" from Clone to HD with "erase then copy" option.

FYI I do not use Time Machine and I did back-up essential files separately.

Just wanting to make sure I'm not missing anything, before committing the irreparable.

Many thanks!

Not quite. If you have an SSD or Fusion drive, Catalina likely split your drive into two volumes. When you boot from the backup, you're going to want to erase the drive completely (from the top) in order to put things back into one volume, then restore. So:
  • Open Disk Utility
  • Choose "Show All Devices" from the View menu
  • Select the destination drive hardware (above the container and volume)
  • Click Erase
  • Choose "GUID" partitioning, "APFS" formatting and name appropriately
  • Click Erase
Then restore (with Smart Update or Erase) and you should be all set.

Glad I checked with you. Indeed there are two volumes inside the container. This brings up an issue though: I have Bootcamp installed. In Disk Utility, can I simply erase the container instead of the SSD?
