Error with Boot Camp & MacBook Pro EFI Firmware errors
I upgraded my MacBook Pro Hard drive to 250 GB (good)!
I used SuperDuper to copy the old drive to the new one (good)! The MacBook Pro upgrade works great, and I have a 250GB startup volume now (GREAT)! I can't run certain Apple utilities like Boot Camp or the EFI Firmware updater (bad)! The error I get with Boot Camp is: "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." Any ideas? |

Sounds like the internal drive is not partitioned with GUID...

How does one partition the drive with GUID retroactively? is it even possible?

Not that I know of -- you'd have to repeat the whole procedure...

I found a nifty utility called iPartition. Once I bought it (~$45), I was able to create a bootable DVD which allowed me to run iPartition on my internal volume. I was able to convert the partition scheme to GUID. I was able to write an MBR. I am still unable to run the Boot Camp or EFI firmware utility. ![]() |

I didn't know iPartition could convert partitions like that -- cool.
Weird that it wouldn't run Boot Camp, though. I think you should contact Apple...

Hi..newbie Dave here!
Soo..I'm almost in the same boat. Just got the 250gig drive for my new MBP from MCE (and they specifically say they're BootCamp compatible..) http://www.mcetech.com/msperformance/ From what I'm understanding, there's NO WAY??? to get my existing BootCamp partition (and ALL my installed software) from my old drive to my new one?? If I'm wrong..please point me in the right direction! thank you! daveg seattle |
