Scheduled backup failed to run

I have OS 10.4.11 and I have setup a schedule on week 1 to run a backup every day at 11:30 pm. I also have similar schedules for weeks 2, 3 and 4. The last backup executed and completed successfully on Jan 30th at 12:13 am, but the backup for last night did not execute. It should have been completed on Jan 31st at about 12:15 am. I have the System Preferences > Energy Saver scheduled to wake up one minute before the backup to start - 11:29 pm.

Does the SuperDuper schedule think it already executed the backup for the day by comparing the day of the completion with the scheduled day of the next backup? Is it checking the the completion time of the last backup and not the start time? If this is the case, then anytime you schedule a backup to run every day just before midnight, then it will only execute every other day instead of every day.

The last backup was started on Friday at 11:30 and completed on Saturday at 12:13 am. Yester "day" was Saturday and it skipped the backup for 11:30 pm. I am checking this idea. I have re-scheduled all the backups to start at 12:01 am and I have adjusted the System Preferences to wake up the computer at 12:00 am - that way there is no chance that a backup will start one one day and finish on the next day.

We compare the actual date and day with the schedule, at the time we run, not when we complete. It's possible the wake didn't take and then schedule didn't run...

Thank you for the fast response. I think you are correct that the computer didn't wake up as scheduled because if I remember correctly, the SuperDuper schedule said that the next backup was supposed to be Jan 30 at 11:30 pm (that was last night just before midnight). I will play with the system wake up schedule and watch it to see if it wakes up.

Just checking ... the SuperDuper schedule says that the last copy was Sat Jan 30, at 12:32 am and the next copy is Jan 31 at 11:30 pm so it appears like it is scheduling just as you say. It does look like something got in the way when the computer was supposed to wake up.

FYI - I found a small utility called Wake Assist. It seems there is a bug with wake up on some Macs. The utility provides a mouse click after it wakes up. Someone even wrote a feedback post where the poster mentions that they were having trouble with scheduled backups with OS 10.4.8: http://www.versiontracker.com/php/fe...70209112042353

I am giving it a try and I thought this may be useful.
