Folder to Folder synchronization

So I have successfully cloned and deployed a bunch of new MacBook Pros. But I cannot figure out a simple thing like synchronizing a folder with an other folder on a server. E.g. I have a folder Project1 in Documents and I want to synchronize it with a folder Project1_backup on a file server. The destination should not be an image or sparse image because I want to access the same data from a RedHat Linux Workstation which cannot read those formats.

How can I do folder to folder synchronization with SD? Or do I need yet another tool for this task?
