Change the name of a folder without re-copying contents

Hi all - this may be a odd question. I would like to set up a system for my work where I will wind up regularly changing the name of a folder that holds image files that are in process. When the folder name changes only a small number of files will be new, many, many files will be unchanged. The problem I foresee is that I assume SD will see the folder and it's contents as new and copy all the contents to the destination drive. The folder is rather big, about 100 gigs, so I would rather that it only changed the name of the folder and added the new files. Any way to accomplish this?
