Upgrading macbook HD

I'm new to mac, but have used a similar product in my Apricorn EZ-upgrade kit on a Windows laptop to clone the entire HD to a new, larger capacity HD. Can SD do the same thing with a mac? Which method do I use? Copy Mac HD to external USB drive? Is there a partition issue? Do I use the mac utilities to partition the new larger HD? Thanks for all the help...I'm not a computer newbie, but I am new to mac...gardually switching from pc to mac.....

Yes, you should first properly partition the drive for the Mac (use the Partition tab in Disk Utility, "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as the format type, and make sure to click Options and set the right partition type, too.

Then, use "Backup - all files" with "Erase, then copy" or "Smart Update" to copy the drive. I suggest naming it the same as the original drive. Swap drives and you should be all set.

It should work, but why not use SD! to do it?
