Backup Failed! Please help...

Hi there,

My backup failed a couple of times because of something to do with Microsoft Office X, so I trashed the application. (I'm backing up an old computer and didn't need it anymore.)

I rebooted holding down the Shift key and didn't open any applications.

It got further this time, but stalled again, this time at something to do with FindByContect in the Library. I suppose that's probably some indexing thing, but I wasn't sure if it was ok for me to trash, or if there might be some way to just disable it.

My error log is below.

Thank you!

M

You're going to want to delete that folder (or just the index file), empty your trash and try again. (I don't quite understand why there's a Spotlight folder on a 10.3.9 drive, though. Wasn't Spotlight added in Tiger?)

Spotlight folder

I guess not! Although this just says FindByContent, not Spotlight
Will I miss it later if I trash it?
Thanks very much

Spotlight was elsewhere in the log, not FindByContent. You won't miss it since, after all, it's damaged anyway!

still not working!

So I did a search for FindByContent, found the folder in Library>Indexes>FindByContent, trashed the whole Indexes folder (the FindByContent folder was the only thing in there) and emptied the trash, but I'm still getting an error message. (See log below)

I did another search for anything else that contains FindByContent and it came up empty.

Any suggestions where I might find the problem? Anything else I should do?

Thanks!

M

Try using Finder's "Go To Folder" command to open

/TheFindByContentFolder

Then, once there, delete "TheFindByContentIndex".

nothing came up...

but when i search for "find by content" (not all one word) it shows that there's an extension called Find By Content in my System Folder, Find by Content Indexing in my Extensions folder and Find By Content Plug-Ins within that Indexing folder.

Does that help at all?

Not really, no. Try opening the Terminal application. Then, copy the following line:

Code:
sudo rm /TheFindByContentFolder/TheFindByContentIndex
Press Return at the end of it. When prompted for your password, type it in (it'll be invisible) and press Return again.
