Storing the backup over the network, booting, speed of transfer
This post addresses more than one question:
1. I have a network shared drive where I'd like to keep all my backups, because I have a lot of empty space there. SUperDuper is completely able to store the backup there, no problem at all ... but I wonder if I will be able to boot from the network. 99% sure I wont be able to do so, but then why people would backup over the network then ? 2. About the speed of the backup ... I'm having an effective speed copy of 0,5mb/s. I know my network can go a lot faster than that. Why is it this slow ? |

You can't start up over the network, but it's still quite useful -- just not (directly) bootable until restored.
For speed, it depends entirely on the speed of the drive, its own file accesses, etc. We copy the files as fast as the system lets us, but access to the image isn't purely "streamed" so you won't get high throughput. Subsequent Smart Updates are much faster, though.
