Scheduling versus Sleep

I have a backup scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 6:10AM, and my Energy Saver panel schedules a wake-up or start-up at 6:00AM.

Today's (Wednesday) backup didn't happen, but the line in Scheduled Copies was not red. When I select that line, the description says Monday, Wednesday, Friday, etc.

Because of security settings, my computer requires a logon whenever waked from sleep. Could this be the reason? At any rate, the lack of a red highlight seems wrong.

Most definitely: as documented in the User's Guide, if you need a password when you wake, you can't use scheduling for those "sleeping" times.

A skipped copy is not considered an error. Note, though, that you can use Growl to notify you on success or failure, and the lack of a notification will let you know that something didn't happen...

I'm in the same exact situation. Isn't there some kind of workaround we can do?

I have my laptop set to go to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity (requiring password to wake), so if I leave my laptop on ym desk for a little while, my officemates can't easily use it without my permission. But this means that a scheduled wake-from-sleep (using Energy Saver system pref) won't succeed and thus a late-night scheduled SuperSuper backup won't ever get a chance to run.

One idea I had is to try using the screensaver for security rather than sleep, requiring a password to get out of screensaver mode but not to wake up...
Then I could have Energy Saver successfully wake the system at, say, 2am, and have SuperDuper scheduled to trigger a backup after the system wakes but before the screesaver triggers.

But I haven't tried this yet.
Anyone else have any other ideas/knowledge for solutions to this?
thanks!

Screensaver should work, UniAce.

Agh! It was SUCH a good plan...
But when I went to try and implement it, I discovered that the Security preference (in system prefs) has ONE single checkbox for "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver."
So there's no way apparently to require a password for just one or the other.
Dang! There's gotta be a way to have BOTH password protection AND a scheduled fully-automatic backup.

Maybe some third-party software is needed? Like a 3rd-party screensaver with password option, or I'm sure there's some 3rd-party security-type software...

Hmm, so is there any way to script SuperDuper (or maybe use an applescript?) to log into the computer when it wakes up for the scheduled backup?
