Repair Permissions

Just reading through last thread and I don't understand when you would and/or wouldn't use "repair permissions" ....

I think mine is set (using Smart Backup) to repair permissions....I don't know why?

What does it impact? When should I use it?

thx:

Personally, I never repair permissions unless I'm having permission problems.
