"Disk full." How much disk space to I need?

Hello everybody,

a related question from the past

http://www.shirt-pocket.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=3066

does not really help me. I have 25GB used and want SD to produce an image of my entire HD with 75 GB space to the same and only partition on it, say the desktop.

After one third SD tells me that the partition is full. And indeed so says df, 0% left

Am I wrong somewhere that I need around 25 GB or a bit more of space for the image and not 3 x 50 GB?

(Aside another possibly silly (?) question of a new user: How do I restore the system if:
* I have no external firewire drive or something else bootable
* an image stored in some other place,
* no network file system to access the image, just say scp for ex.
* a new HD that replaces the broken one but too small in size to hold a
system (necessary to start SD?) plus the image.

Maybe I just need to be pointed to the right place in the doc. Could not find it.)

Regards
Daniel
