Okay, 2 questions...
I have always used Carbon Copy Cloner, and recently was told about SuperDuper! and how amazing and better it was, so I decided to give it a try.
But I am running into a little problem... Well, first off, I should ask, just to make sure... If I make a back up of all files, I can use the external to boot, right? It makes a copy of the entire system? Okay, but here is my problem... I run the back up of all files, 500gb external, 320 internal, I get 89gbs into the back up, and it tells me the external is full, which only had 40kb left on it. Now, I have never seen this before every doing a back up, so this morning I started running it again, and I saw on the SuperDuper! app that 1.73gb had been backed up, and I "got info" on the external drive, and it told me 3.98gb had been used. So now I know why it ran out of space, because it doubles what is backed up. What am I doing wrong? Or is it with SuperDuper I need a drive twice the size to make a full back up? Any help would be great, thanks, and so far, I really like the app. I hope I get it to work so I can continue to use it. Thanks |

Can you send in your log information, using the "Send to shirt pocket button" to support? I'd like to take a look.

Yeah, I started another one, that doesn't list everything, do you want the one I was just comparing to "Get Info" or the original one that failed? If it is the original one, how can I access that one? In a Library file somewhere? Cuz when I click on 'Show Log' it only shows the most recent.
Thanks for the quick response, I'll send it if I can. Or do you want me to run a whole new one until it fails and then send that log? Here is my most recent log, but this one didn't fail, because I saw the size changing... ------- | 05:50:20 AM | Info | SuperDuper!, 2.5 (84), path: /Applications/SuperDuper!.app, Mac OS 10.5.2 build 9C7010 (i386) | 05:50:20 AM | Info | Started on Tue, Apr 15, 2008 at 5:50 AM | 05:50:20 AM | Info | Source Volume: Shif, mount: /, device: /dev/disk0s2, media: WDC WD3200AAJS-40RYA0, interconnect: Internal SATA, file system: "Journaled HFS+", OS: 10.5.2 (9C7010), capacity: 278.00 GB, used: 272.61 GB, directories: 228332, files: 1037601, ejectable: NO, ACLs: Enabled | 05:50:20 AM | Info | Target Volume: Back Up, mount: /Volumes/Back Up, device: /dev/disk1s2, media: MAXTOR S TM3500630AS, interconnect: External USB, file system: "Journaled HFS+", OS: N/A, capacity: 465.44 GB, used: 0.15 GB, directories: 9, files: 42, ejectable: NO, ACLs: Enabled | 05:50:20 AM | Info | Copy Mode : Erase, then copy files | 05:50:20 AM | Info | Copy Script : Backup - all files.dset | 05:50:20 AM | Info | Transcript : BuildTranscript.plist | 05:50:21 AM | Info | PHASE: 1. Are you using FileVault?
We definitely don't 'double' what's backed up, but you might be having problems because of open files on the source (or perhaps your AntiVirus). Anyway -- send me the log with the button and we'll figure it out.

You know what, I ran it a 4th time while I was sleeping lastnight and it worked fine. Well, at least it backed up and didn't run out of room. All I have to check out is if it is bootable and we are good to go.
I do have one question, will I use Smart Update in say, a few days to just back up what is different? Like the way Time Machine works? Thanks! |

It'll update the backup with the changes, yes -- but it's not "like Time Machine" in the sense that we're not keeping the old versions around.
