Question SD hangs while cloning - no warnings, no errors

Hi All,
I recently tried SD for backing up my HD which consists of 2 partitions of 20 Gb each. I started yesterday with the system partition. I created a sparse disk image following the instruction that I found in the forum. I wanted to have an incremental backup of the files. After a couple of hours it was still at around 20% of the process. I went home and then, this morning I found the process at the same point. What I tracked was that it was trying to backup my Library folder: \users\mauro\Library\ .
It was still working: no errors, no warnings.
Finally I managed to find the log file which I am attaching at the end of this message. Then, I tried to repair permissions with Disk Utility, reboot, disable all the possible running software but still the same problem.
Any idea on what to try next?
Thanks

Mauro

That's strange, Mauro. I don't know much about your configuration, but here's what I'd suggest:

- If you've got DiskWarrior, give it a run on this drive. You might have a strange folder error on this drive.
- If not, try logging out and back in with Shift held down, then try the backup again... a program you're running might be interfering with the backup

If neither of those help, if you could generate a System Profiler report, save it with File | Save to XML format, and send it into support, I'll take a look.

OK! Thanks for the system profiler report. A few things:

- First, I don't think disk utility handles erasing Sparse Images properly, and that's where you're getting stuck. You should use "Smart Update" when writing to a Sparse Image. (That's the only real way to get an 'incremental' effect in any case.)

Looking at your system logs, SuperDuper! never really copied anything because disk utility never returned from erasing the image... or disk arbitration never returned from refreshing.

- Second, you've got NAV in there. I strongly recommend turning OFF auto-protect when you're using SD. NAV's kernel extension can't really handle scanning hundreds of thousands of files well... it'll often end up kernel panicing!

Hope that helps.
