Sandbox sharing

According to the manual, when creating a sandbox using the standard 'Sandbox - shared users and applications' script,

Quote:
Apple-provided applications, such as iDVD, iTunes and iSync, are copied in full. This ensures that any system updates that affect those applications are isolated to the Sandbox volume.
However, the iWeb and iWork apps seem to be shared instead of copied, yet are also updated via Software Update. Any particular reason for this, or can I just adapt the script to copy these as well?

Ciao,
Roeland.

Well, we decided those aren't part of your typical "Software Update" and thus shouldn't be copied (plus, on top of that, they're pretty gigantic and were added to a typical install late in the game, and that can cause problems for users). There's no harm in copying them if you have the space!

Thanks for the clarification, Dave. I did assume at first their size was the reason to share them, but iWeb is smaller than iPhoto, and iWork is about the same size as iDVD and smaller than Garageband, so wondered what else made them exceptional.

Ciao,
Roeland, having tremendous fun setting up his new MacBook Pro
