OK. But the source volume is not the startup volume, it's a separate volume dedicated only to my work files, which could be made completely readable (in terms of privileges) to the backup account.
Saving the SD settings as a file and triggering the backup process by double clicking the file (which you've suggested in order to prevent this kind of accidents) is usually fine, I was just thinking how I could make this completely idiot proof in an elegant way, for example when I need to alter the settings regularly.
