You'd want to boot from something that allows full access to your Windows network to restore, or you could copy the image to something that can be accessed by the Mac during recovery using the steps in "Recovering from a disaster".

A "user file" backup like that could be copied in using "Copy Newer" when booted from another volume. But, in general, I suggest full backups, rather than subsetted ones -- it makes it much easier to restore, and that way you're assured you don't miss something important that might be outside /Users...
