Backing up multiple machines and drive encryption

OK, let's put aside the Leopard compatibility for now.
As a stopgap, I'm using Time Machine to back up to a network drive.

I really like SD's ability to create a bootable image. I will still use Time Machine for incrementals, but when used with an external drive, SD gives you the ability to recover from a stolen or dead laptop and resume work almost immediately. There is, however, an added danger that now your data can be stolen from the external as well as from the laptop.

So, I was wondering about the following two topics:

1) Would SD work fine with an encrypted drive enclosure like the Rocsecure or Radtech units? The enclosure handles the encryption/decryption so I doubt that SD will notice, but thought I would ask.

2) Assuming the above enclosure works, and I install a 1Tb drive, what's the best strategy to partition the drive so that I can back up multiple machines with the same external drive, or if I wanted to, to keep multiple drive "snapshots" for the same user? I assume I can just carve up several 160Gb partitions and make them HFS to match what's in our Macbook Pros, right?
