Thanks.
So, now I have added the following to the upsshutdown script (before the shutdown):

killall -TERM SDCopy
hdiutil detach /Volumes/TheBackupDiskImage
hdiutil detach /Volumes/TheRemoteDisk

Ca you comment which is better between -TERM and -QUIT?
