Does it? Okay. It seems to me an earlier version (2.1.4?) just copied them as normal files and I assumed that 2.5 handled things the same way since there wasn't a mention of it in the version...

That's true for devices, but FIFOs should be recreated or ignored (and the fact that it was ignored logged) otherwise things that depend on the FIFO's behavior tend to break in very strange and hard...
