reinstall certain items
My MBP has been playing up a bit recently so I've decided to do a clean install of Leopard (after fully backing up my HD with SuperDuper!). What I was wondering is whether there's any way of copying over certain apps and for the registration details, prefs etc to stay in tact when doing so.
I wanted to copy my backed up apps a few at a time to see if it was any of these that was causing my slow down problems first of all. I doubt if there's a simple way of doing this because registration details, prefs and application files get left in various places on the OS. Any help though would be much appreciated. |
Are you sure that's the right way to diagnose this problem? In general, a clean install is a pretty radical step to take... but, no, you can't drag and drop applications that were installed with installers.
Have you tried something as simple as an archive-and-install? |
I don't really mind clean installing - like a bit of a spring clean really. My machine just seems to be crunching away at the smallest of tasks at the moment and I'm not sure why - nothing weird is appearing in the Activity Monitor or the Console.
Actually the Archive and Install might not be a bad idea though, thanks. |
