i'd like to start SD on mount of my ext drive. anybody knows how?

hi.

i'd like to start a saved SD action on mount of my external drive. after the BU i wanna automatically eject the drive (that's the easy part, i guess). i tried making a folder action script on /Volumes but it didn't work.

any help appreciated, regards, niko.

Use "Peripheral Vision" or "Do Something When", along with the general steps in the "Maxtor OneTouch Button" FAQ entry. Set it up to run on mount, and that should take care of it (other than the unmount, which you can do in AppleScript).

Hope that helps!

I don't know how to do that exactly, but SD 2.1.3 can schedule a backup, and if the target drive is not mounted when it starts, it gets mounted, the backup runs, then dismounted when complete. You can use Grow (mailme) to email backup status to yourself. Also, Growl can write a log file if for any reason the mailme itself fails (like if you network is down, for example).

Using that in conjunction when a scheduled startup or wake using Apple's Energy Saver control panel can insure that your backup get done when you want it.
