Urgent troubleshooting!

Hello - I was performing my weekly Smart Update back-up when the back-up Firewire disk cable got accidentally disconnected and the back-up process was interrupted. My computer now displays the "Start-up Disk is full" error message (even though there should be approximately 25Gb left) and indeed it shows 0Kb left in the Finder window. Despite a folder by folder search I cannot locate the mystery files (duplicates?) that are clogging up the disk, they are probably invisible. I am not sure what to do -I don't want to initiate a new back-up by fear of compromising my back-up disk, but I am really hoping to salvage the recent info on my hard disk that hasn't been backed up yet. Could someone advise?
Thanks so much!!!!

Use Finder's "Go To Folder" menu to open

/Volumes

One there, look for a folder (not a link/alias) with the same name as the backup drive. Delete that folder and your space should return.

Dave - thanks for your quick and efficient reply. It's solved, and time was of the essence.
