SuperDuper Tuesday

Hi Dave

Thanks so much for today's Blog update. Looking forward to using the new and improved SD tomorrow! The hell with the "Super Tuesday" Presidential Primaries. This day belongs to you! One hell of an effort on your part to get this thing "right" while putting up with the rest of us. ;)

I hope you have a vacation planned to rest and restore.

Awesome news. I've been watching quietly with my un-installed Leopard disk on my desk.

I might still wait for 10.5.2 before installing Leopard. But this is still great news. Thanks Dave. You've got a much thicker skin than I.

Yeah! I second that.

The Hell freezes over and Timemachine warps to Yesterday to make room for the SuperDuper Future. I never awaited a Backup-Utility so passionately like this one, several TeraBytes are waiting for Backup here!

Your Blog-Stories sometimes reminded me of some Hitchcock-Movies...

Couldn't wait for the happy end tomorrow! Thanks for your hard work, thanks for fair info to all your customers along the way and may every possible bug be squashed...:)

All the best to you and your Betatesters!

rmiller501 02-04-2008 01:02 PM

Thank You :)

Anith 02-04-2008 01:14 PM

Thank you so much Dave! I never anticipated that I would care this much about the release date of software, especially a system utility.

Hey, here's a hilarious joke: release it on Wednesday instead, throw everybody off! :p

patrickm 02-04-2008 01:26 PM

Way to go Dave!!!!!!
One question. I have a 500 gig external which I partitioned, 130 megs for Duper Duper. The other partition is used for storage. I noticed that Apple's disk utility gives me a choice to partition, GUID partition table or Apple partition map. The GUID is for intel macs. Since this is an intel mac, I would assume I would use the GUID for the partition used for Super Duper, or does it matter?

patrickm

dnanian 02-04-2008 01:28 PM

GUID is a partition scheme for an entire drive, not just "one partition". Intel Macs work best if you use "GUID" for the drive.

mepavitt 02-04-2008 01:29 PM

Thanks!

Dave:

Thanks! Your persistence is appreciated.
Next step is to hold our breath when Leopard 10.5.2 hits the street.

This time it will be their turn to wait for you and see how SuperDuper! handles the update.

Will keep my fingers crossed.

Amen to that. I'm looking forward to getting back on a regular backup schedule!

wavenumber 02-04-2008 04:22 PM

If candidate X doesn't win it will obviously be Dave's fault as he has planned on this release date all along just to keep voters busy. Any delays on poll results will also be his fault due to diverting computer resources to downloading the new version… ;)

Thanks for the update!

mac-10 02-04-2008 11:27 PM

Don't worry, we just won't use SuperDuper! to back up the results! ;)

Results on a government computer... You can run with it from there! :D

OK, just had to check: anyone else waiting for 00:01 to see if Dave posts the .dmg? :)

Dave, I see you smiling, mate! Well done, and thanks. Seriously.

It appears that me and 13 others are also waiting.

Yep, just checking in. :)

Already 6:30 a.m. (Tuesday) in Western Europe. What's that my mom used to say, something about a watched pot never boils? Guess I'm just too impatient to snare this beauty early...on the off chance that Dave's servers might become overloaded and cause delays once the "masses" see the d/l link on VersionTracker, MacUpdate, Macworld, etc.

Actually, I was hoping he might post the d/l link a few hours early on his blog. Guess not.

mac-10 02-05-2008 12:52 AM

Well, it didn't go up at 12:01 EST (Weston, MA) time and that's where Dave's profile says he hails from...

I can't stay up until 12:01 PST (where Apple is and where I am) tonight, I did last night; but I have a train to catch in the morning! (I'll be 1,262,891 in line on the gasping servers tomorrow morning! :-D )

Duper Duper? Took 12 hours but I see my mistake. Doh!!!!

steveb 02-05-2008 05:16 AM

Erm, how does one get the new version?

Do I just run check for updates? Saying that, I've just done that and it said I'm running the latest version, which I'm not!

Cryptic messages in the blog are great, and cool, and fun, but a bit more info on how to actually get the download would be even greater and cooler and erm, funner!

BTW- It's mid morning on Tuesday here in Ireland ;-)

chatoyer 02-05-2008 05:35 AM

steveb: hasn't quite been released yet. I think the Shirt Pocket team is at GMT -5, which means as I write this he's likely still in the scratcher (bed).

Keep checking the main page throughout the day (and he'll post instructions I'm sure on how to upgrade).

Jeffus 02-05-2008 05:38 AM

Great News Dave, many thanks to you and your hardworking team. As been said earlier you have a very tough skin . . . . thank goodness. Really looking forward to upgrading to 2.5.

Jeffus.

Get up ya lazy fecker ;-)

bizk 02-05-2008 06:31 AM

Tick tick tick . . . .

Ouch, nearly half way through SuperDuper! Tuesday and still no sign . . . .
Just hope the site stays up, with all this pent-up demand!
The Leopard using (and even more wannabe Leopard upgraders who are waiting for SD2.5) of Yorkshire await the pronouncement from on high
. . . . but a download link would be better!
:O)
cheers

Biz

Hooray for SuperDuper Tuesday. Dave for President!!! :p

Thank you Dave and the SD team for all of your hard work.

fkeeney 02-05-2008 06:46 AM

Thanks Dave:D

dnanian 02-05-2008 07:36 AM

People -- sorry, but there's no way I can post it at midnight, since the instant it goes up support starts coming in, and I'll be locked at my desk for the next 24. Had to get some rest.

It'll be going up mid-morning Eastern time, likely between 10am and 11am. When you start your copy of SuperDuper!, the update will be offered, or you'll be able to download and install it from the SuperDuper! page.

stokessd 02-05-2008 09:27 AM

Sweet! 16 gig iPhones and superduper. It is a super tuesday! I'm heading out to buy a pair of phones ASAP.

16g iPhone? Arrggghhhh, now I've no excuse, other than lack of funds :(

Anyway, Superduper upgraded itself just now, so all is right with the world. Thanks to everyone for the behind the scenes work in getting it to us. And thanks to the slacker DN who finally got outta bed ;-)

(Weirdly, Time Machine started playing silly buggers today, saying a HDD that yesterday had only 150g of data on it is now full, it's a 500g drive! Format time :-) )

patrickm 02-05-2008 10:24 AM

Thanks Dave. Just got my copy :)

Same here.

davebarnes 02-05-2008 10:41 PM

Works for me

I upgraded.
I did a Smart Backup.
I booted from my FireWire drive "bootable backup" partition.
I am happy.

Anith 02-06-2008 12:06 AM

As of 9:00 PST, Barack Obama just said "SuperDuper! Tuesday" on national televison. OK, maybe he wasn't quite referring to it in this manner, but I still laughed when I heard it after waiting for months.

And a fine thanks to Dave for the software, by the way. Just repartioned and will backup ASAP!

edesignuk 02-06-2008 04:13 AM

Just wanted to give a quick thanks for all the hard work in getting this up and running with Leopard, it has been missed.

Screw Time Machine, SuperDuper is where it's at! :D

Herbert Schulz 02-06-2008 08:35 AM

Howdy,

Thanks for all of your effort to get it right.

I was temporarily using CCC in erase and clone mode (takes ~1.5hr for my data) so I has some disaster recovery until this version of SD came out. I had problems with doing the (Not Very) Smart Backup with CCC but Now that SD 2.5 is here life is back to normal.

Now, when DW 4.1 is delivered my disaster recovery and efficiency solution will be back and I'll be able to rest more comfortably. :D

Good Luck,
Herb Schulz

stokessd 02-06-2008 10:33 AM

Thanks a bunch. I started a new backup image for my laptop (I was using CCC) and in 5 hours it backed up my 180 gig of stuff on my laptop. Thanks a bunch! Tonight it's my wife's 80 gig of stuff.

Sd 2.5

Hi Dave, just downloaded and installed my copy of SuperDuper! 2.5. Haven't tried it yet but I just KNOW it's gonna work perfectly. After ALL your fabulous hard work it can't do anything else but. Thanks a million again Dave from all the people out here still using Tiger (no Time Machine) you didn't forget us. Thanks for making it work on both OS's. Your a great guy (your on my christmas card list). :p

Jeffus.

My thought was that it was cool that Shirt Pocket somehow got Barack Obama to plug SuperDuper on the day the Leopard version came out.

I guess it's good that Obama is going with SD! because all of the Republicans want to pass a Constitutional amendment to ban Carbon Copy Cloner!

I figure every time this happens, it's free marketing! W00t!

mac-10 02-06-2008 12:50 PM

Yeah, after downloading my new SD!, I had to get in my Jeep and race to the train station. The news announcer said "... and today, on this Super, Duper, Tuesday..." and I laughed the rest of the way to the train!

I think, in many years of Super Tuesdays, this is the first one to actually make me think "everything's gonna be OK..."

I was able to do a lot of systems tasks last night that I have been putting off until I had a backup saved off that I was confident in. Dave, that should give you an idea of how much I trust SD!...
