SuperDuper folder(s)

For some reason that makes no sense my boot drive seems to have dropped about 70 gigs in free space recently. I know drive space goes up ad down a little on High Sierra, but this seems excessive.

Looking just now in the finder I saw three folders that I hadn't seen before and wondered if there is a connection. The first is called Backup, then there is one called Support that has a folder inside called SuperDuper. Finally there is a folder that is simply named OS.

All of these folders appear to be empty, but it does seem odd that they are visible and I am suddenly losing all this drive space. Anybody know what is happening here?

I don't think any of those are related at all.

Have you tried looking at the drive using Daisy Disk or Grand Perspective? That's where I'd start.

I missed your reply for reason, despite setting the option for an instant email notification. No I haven't tried those, but I'll look them up and see if they can help.

I had a similar experience after I first installed High Sierra, when my drive space decreased in big chunks every day until it reached just 30 gigs. I was worried it was going to completely choke with no space left, so I tried a clean install that reclaimed around 100 gigs of space, which was just astonishing. It has stayed at around the same 120 gigs of available space until very recently when it suddenly dropped dramatically for no obvious reason. Another clean install may be on the cards again.

Gee, I hope not. I haven't had to clean install for years...

The last time I had to do one was after installing High Sierra. Hopefully it won't be needed again.

I think there is something broken with the instant email notifications here. They are not coming through and I've checked the spam folder on the server.

That's strange, because I'm getting them... hm.

I didn't get your last reply either. They're not coming through to my inbox or even trapped on the server. I can try another email address if you want to test this, but I do normally receive emails from other forums. I've just checked and I've been using this email address since 1999...

It may be something refusing "relays" or similar...hard to say.
