Screensaver or Blank Screen while backup in process?
Great program!
However one thing that has got me beat.. iMac G5 OSX 10.4.x While the program (SuperDuper) is running my screensaver does not activate, and neither does my display black out as it usually does after 15 mins of inactivity. This is a real pain.. woke me up last night when SuperDuper kicked off as the screen turned on... Any ideas? Help? Looking forward to your reply. |
I've noticed the same thing, but as far as I know it's not something we're doing, Brad. We've got the problem logged, though, and will continue to investigate.

Appreciate that.. ;)
There must be something SuperDuper is doing that makes the OS think that there is mouse/keyboard activity, or at least something that causes it to not activate screensaver or display sleep. |
Really don't know... but we'll take a look!

Was this ever resolved? Will the screen now sleep during backup?
blakespot |
We're still looking into it: it was done consciously because some screen savers interfere with backing up (either by generating a lot out output to their logs, or by taking so much CPU that the backup slows tremendously)...

Some people may have different preferences on this ... I actually prefer it the way it is, as one can see from a distance whether the program is still running or has finished. Otherwise, one must walk up to the computer and touch something to see where SuperDuper is. Not a big deal either way, but my preference is the way it presently runs.

Understood. It's one of those things that'll likely be some kind of (ugh) preference.

Just wanted to throw my two cents in here: I'm waiting for this "feature" to have the option of being disabled too. I just use the standard OS X Energy Saver settings to turn off the screen, and SD overriding it is not appreciated on the PowerBook in the bedroom. ;)
