10.5.5 Breaks Time Machine

10.5.5 update seems to have done something that breaks Time Machine backups for a number of people (me included).

I haven't tested Super Duper yet (it's currently my GOOD backup :D) and I don't want to risk losing it.

There are a decent number of threads on Apple's Support forums:

For me, the the logs complain about the fsevents and then the backupd process does a segmentation fault... Never had a problem in the past...

Dave, what are the chances that problems introduced into the backupd, fsevent process will affect SD? Might it affect Smart Updates and not "erase and copy" backups?

We don't use either backupd or fsevents, and we shouldn't be affected in any way by this issue.

Cool!

Maybe I'll "man up" tonight and try some SD backups! ;)
