Unable to copy extended attributes from directory

SD failed during a routine clone/backup that has been done dozens of times in the past. The failure was due to being "Unable to copy extended attributes from directory" that has the folder with iTunes Album Artwork Cache.

The log is shown below, but here is some additional info that may be relevant. The Mac being backed up is a 10.4 iMac. Its iTunes music for this user was copied from another iMac in the household via the local network. We have done this for years so that both users, on two different iMacs, can use the same iTunes library (both Macs are authorized for this music). iTunes works fine on both machines, and this copying (simple finder copy) has worked fine for years, as has the SD cloning of the 10.4 iMac.

Also -- the 10.4 iMac is a PPC G5 and has iTunes 8.2; the other Mac is a 10.5 Intel iMac with iTunes 8.1. (The iTunes files were briefly updated when iTunes was run on the 10.4 iMac for the first time.)

Below is the log showing the problem. I got around the problem by telling SD to ignore that folder, but I'd prefer to not have to do that if possible. One more thing -- I ran Disk Utility (verify mode) on both the source and target disks here and it found no issues.

This usually indicates that the drive was accessed by Leopard but is now under Tiger. Was the data ever directly accessed, on this drive, by Leopard?

Try using Finder to duplicate the "Cache" folder (quit iTunes first). Once done, delete the original and rename the copy back to Cache. Then empty your trash.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I do not believe that this file (on the Tiger iMac) was ever accessed by a Leopard machine once the file was on the Tiger iMac. But since the file was originally copied from the Leopard machine, perhaps this created an issue somehow. I will try your suggestion in any case.

Your suggestion for what to do about this seems to have worked as now the SD cloning worked fine when including all files. Thank you for the quick (and accurate) response! I have learned now to be careful in how files are handled when machines running both Leopard and Tiger have access via a local network.
