APM and GUID on the same drive

Hi all,

I have acquired a 1TB LaCie external FW drive to back up all my Macs. They all run Leopard but some of them have PPCs and some have Intel processors. Following previous discussions on this forum I understand that I have to back them to different volumes of the external drive, configured respectively as ApplePartionMaps for the PPCs) and as GUIDE for Intels.
I also plan to store on each of these partions TimeMachine backups along with bootable clones made with SP.
Is my understanding correct?

Thanks for the help.

That's not possible to do: a single drive can only have one partition format -- either APM or GUID.

Does then that mean that one cannot backup two machines having different processors to the same drive?

You can use Apple partition map to do it... or images... but Leopard strongly discourages the use of Apple Partition Map with Intel macs.

Thank you.
