Synchronize Panther and Tiger?

I still much prefer to use Panther 10.3.9 as my main OS and it's what's on my internal HD- 80GB Al Book... but I've got Tiger 10.4.3 on my LaCie FW HD as there are times when I like to use a thing or two that either only work or work better in Tiger versus Panther.

Problem is my Panther is constantly changing... deletions, new things added, updated etc etc etc... anyone have any ideas on how to sync Panther's and Tiger's non system files and folders? SuperDuper! can't do a Smart Update from Panther to Tiger or at least I haven't figured it out...

Is there a way to use SuperDuper! to achieve this?

Thanks... :)

I think the Safety Clone/Sandbox is what you'd want here, Dreambird. You'll create a Sandbox, put Tiger on it, and that'd share your user files between Panther and Tiger. So, no sync necessary!

Make sense?

Yes... OK... so I'd have to make a safety clone of my Panther 10.3.9 install and upgrade that clone to Tiger? I acquired my PB at a time when Tiger was just coming out so I was entitled to an upgrade disk which will allow me an archive and install but Panther must be present in order to use it.

I see that the safety clone procedure is covered quite well in SuperDuper!'s manual so I'll read that to make sure I've got it all straight.

Just one question probably pretty obvious but what to be sure... which setting would be best:

Safety Clone - Shared users and applications
or
Safety Clone - Shared users

Re-installing 3rd party apps on the clone is not an issue to me... I don't mind doing that if one way is preferrable to the other so as to make sure there's no chance of corrupting anything on the full Panther install.

Thanks for the quick reply! :)

Shared Users and Applications should work fine for you. What you'll do is make an Safety Clone - Shared Users and Applications of Panther and then *upgrade* it to Tiger.

Note the caveats in the FAQ regarding Tiger and data format differences, though...

I've been poking through the FAQ's... it would appear the things I need to worry about most are Mail, iSync and iCal:

These shouldn't present a huge problem to me as I keep my emailing almost exclusively to Panther in order to prevent my own confusion... ;) I use Panther's iSync for my iPod and don't use iCal.

Appreciate the help... thanks!

Well, then, you should be in reasonable shape.

I have to say that I'd move to Tiger fully at this point, but I'm sure you have reasons to do what you're doing... a Sandbox should serve you well.
