Sleepy, password protected Mac

Howdy,

I have been using SuperDuper for a few days and really like the software. To maintain security on my system, I require a password when waking the screen from sleep or screensaver. I have set a system event to wake the computer 1 minute prior to the time SuperDuper is set to run each night. Will SD be able to execute or will it fail due to the password protection?

Thanks!

It'll fail, Kevin, as documented in the User's Guide. We just can't start running if the mac's locked up due to the password.

I was struggling with this for a while too (on my MacBook), then I found a solution!

A third-party app called Utility Lock:

I now use Utility Lock for password protection instead of the built-in OS X password protection. I use Energy Saver to schedule a wakeup a few minutes before SuperDuper's scheduled backup, and have SuperDuper put the computer back to sleep when it's done. Utility Lock keeps the computer locked from user input until the correct password is entered, but allows scheduled processes to be executed "behind" it.

The documentation is a little sparse, but it totally works. It's donation-ware, so remember to donate to the developer if you find it useful (I did).

That did it!

Wow,

That did it! What a slick little utility.

Perhaps Shirt Pocket should consider licensing that little gem...
