SD and CS hand in hand ?
Hello Dave, hello everyone
Dave, I would like to know what you're thinking about making SuperDuper and ChronoSync work at the same time. I mean : let's imagine an SD clone on an external drive, that I smart-update every week-end. But I would keep a "one way sync" of some chosen folders, from my computer to this external hard-drive, for instance, each afternoon with ChronoSync. Do you see any problem with that ? (Obviously, SD would "erase" and make a perfect clone again each week-end) Thanks for your answer. |
I think that, in general, being selective like that is a mistake. But it's up to you.

I was asking because CS takes a lot less time to perform a "sync" than SD, and most days, before leaving work and catching my train I don't have much time :)
On average, SD takes 20mn to make its weekly smart-update, where CS would take, with some chosen folders from my Home/Documents that I've been working on that day, less than a minute. Hence the question :) |
They're just files, so you can do what you'd like. I just generally don't think selective sync is a good idea, because it's always what you didn't copy that you need.

You're exactly right Dave ! :)
That's why I'm changing my "strategy". Until now I had, with me, only a CS sync of some of my most important documents, and, safe at home, an SD clone. But, as you said, I always needed things that were not with me. That's why I was asking if I could do a CS -and partial- sync BUT on top of a SD clone, that would have all the rest :) But my question was more of a technical one, about "file structures" incompatibilities, or things like that. It seems that, on that particular point, you don't see any problems. So I take your answer as a "yes" :) Thanks again (as always) |
