Advice on Bootable Partition Size

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and have not quite found the answer I seek by browsing the forum, so I'll post the question here.

I have a brand new 1 TB G-Drive Q ext drive that I'm going to create 2 partitions on, one for a bootable backup and the other for general backup.

Now my question: What size should I make the bootable partition?

I've read to make it 10-15% larger than my current system file size. If that's the case, what's the procedure to determine the size of my current system files?

Also, any other advice or anecdotes related to my question/subject is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, bamarich...

In general, it should be about the same size as the source volume you're backing up (you didn't say how large that was, or how much data you have, so it's very difficult to provide any advice here other than the above).

Thanks in advance Dave.
My internal drive is 1 TB. In addition to the 'system files' I have about 5-600GB of files/programs/data that I wish to backup.

And how much do you expect that data to grow? Typically, things grow to occupy the space available, so it won't be long before you have about 1TB of data...

Yes, I understand the potential to max it out, however, I plan to expand my external storage by a factor of 2 times it's current at a later date.

Well, you have to decide what your maximum data size is going to be with this configuration and partition appropriately...
